An invitation to Ukraine for foreigners or stateless persons is a key document that allows obtaining a type “C” or “D” visa for entry into the country at a Ukrainian diplomatic mission or consular office abroad.

A short-term visa implies that citizens of other countries or stateless persons subject to visa requirements in Ukraine according to international agreements or legislation can stay in Ukraine for no more than 90 days within any 180-day period from the date of the first entry.

Invitations are often issued to obtain a short-term “C” visa. During the validity period of this visa, a foreigner can enter and exit Ukraine multiple times or once (depending on the type of visa – single or multiple). The “C” visa does not entitle the holder to temporary or permanent residency. For that, a “D” visa is required. However, a “C” visa is necessary if a foreigner comes to Ukraine to obtain immigration documents. The visa validity period should not exceed the validity period of the foreigner’s passport, which must be valid for at least three months from the planned departure date.

Ukraine offers various types of invitations for foreigners:

    1. Guest or private invitation: typically from an individual such as a relative, friend, fiancé, or fiancée.
    2. Original business invitation: a document sent from a legal entity registered in Ukraine.
    3. Tourist invitation: arranged through a tourist company and is one of the most popular ways to invite foreigners to Ukraine.

All these types of invitations are valid for a maximum of 90 days from the date of issue.

The process of issuing an invitation to Ukraine can be initiated by the inviting party according to the following criteria:

    1. Private individuals: citizens of Ukraine, foreigners, or stateless persons permanently or temporarily residing in Ukraine for education, training, work, or other legitimate reasons. They can invite or host foreigners and stateless persons. The invitation must be drawn up in a notarized form and contain all necessary information according to the legislation.
    2. Legal entities: companies, institutions, and organizations registered according to Ukrainian law. This can also include branches of foreign companies or representations of international organizations. The invitation is issued on the official letterhead of the company and must comply with all requirements established by law.
