In Ukraine, a temporary residence permit is mandatory for all foreign workers planning to move here for work.
However, there are exceptions when a temporary residence permit is not required:
- If the employee works remotely from their country of permanent residence.
- If the employee doesn’t need to stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days within 180 days.
In such cases, the employee can visit Ukraine (if necessary) on a short-term visa or visa-free, depending on their citizenship.
To apply for a temporary residence permit, the employee must be personally present in Ukraine since their fingerprints are collected on the day of application. After your employer obtains a work permit for you, to obtain a temporary residence permit, you need to go through three stages:
- Arriving in Ukraine with a special visa (type “D”).
- Submitting an application and obtaining a temporary residence permit in Ukraine.
- Registering the residential address in Ukraine.
After obtaining a temporary residence permit, the next step is to register the foreign employee’s residential address with the State Migration Service within 30 calendar days from the date of receiving the residence permit.
The list of required documents for registering the residential address includes:
- Application for registration of the residential address.
- Temporary residence permit.
- Documents confirming the right to use the housing by the employee, such as a certificate of ownership, lease agreement, or consent of the owner/landlord, and other relevant documents.
These documents must be provided for the official registration of the residential address with the State Migration Service to confirm the legality and legitimacy of the employee’s residence in Ukraine.
