A permanent residence permit in Ukraine differs from a temporary one in that it lacks restrictions on the duration of stay in the country. This means that a foreigner has the right to stay in the country indefinitely, and after 5 years of continuous residence, they can, according to Ukrainian legislation, obtain Ukrainian citizenship. Upon receiving such a permit, a foreigner gains maximum rights available to non-residents.
There are two categories of individuals eligible for a permanent residence permit:
- Foreigners and stateless individuals who, according to the Law of Ukraine “On Immigration,” immigrated to Ukraine for permanent residence.
- Foreigners and stateless persons who resided in Ukraine permanently until the decision to terminate their Ukrainian citizenship was made. After the termination of citizenship, they continued to reside in Ukraine. In this case, the basis for obtaining a permanent residence permit is the corresponding decree of the President of Ukraine on the termination of Ukrainian citizenship and the application of such individuals.
What is the procedure for obtaining the permit?
- Gathering of necessary documents in accordance with the requirements of the law.
- Submitting to the territorial unit of the State Migration Service of Ukraine an application for an immigration permit.
- Receiving the immigration permit after the application is reviewed.
- Obtaining a long-term visa to enter Ukraine and submitting an application for a permanent residence permit based on the obtained immigration permit.
- Registering your place of residence by obtaining registration according to established rules.
