Payment of 15 million hryvnias to relatives of the deceased defender

Unfortunately, we are faced with a difficult reality in which every day Ukrainian servicemembers sacrifice their lives in the fight against the aggression of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Their courage and dedication in defending our Homeland stand as an example of heroism in the hardest of times.

Even when a loss cannot be undone, the state is obligated to honor the memory of the fallen and support their families. Providing compensation for death during wartime is one way of offering such support. However, it is important to note that obtaining these payments can be a complicated process that requires a thorough understanding of legislation and procedures.

In this situation, professional assistance from military lawyers is extremely important. They possess a deep understanding of laws and compensation procedures and can provide the qualified support needed to help families of fallen soldiers navigate this difficult process. In addition, we can submit an attorney’s request to the military unit to obtain the necessary documents.

Regarding the general provisions of Ukrainian legislation, according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 168, families of fallen servicemembers are guaranteed a payment of 15 million UAH.

First of all, it is necessary to obtain a death certificate and official documents that contain the results of the investigation and the circumstances of the tragedy. These documents must be provided by the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center or the military unit.

However, there are certain conditions that must be met in order to receive compensation payments. In particular, the documents must clearly state that the death occurred “in the line of duty” and “in connection with the defense of the Homeland.” These are key criteria for determining eligibility for state compensation under the law.

Once you have obtained these documents, you should contact the commander of the military unit to receive the following package of documents:

  • an extract from the order excluding the deceased from the personnel list of the military unit;
  • a document confirming the causes and circumstances of the servicemember’s death;
  • an extract from the personal file showing the composition of the servicemember’s family.

The next step in this procedure is to submit an application for a one-time monetary assistance payment to the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center. All the above-mentioned documents must be attached to this application, along with documents confirming identity and family relationships.

After that, the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center sends certified copies of the documents to the Department of Social Security of the Ministry of Defense. There, a Special Commission makes a decision regarding the approval or denial of compensation, based on established rules and procedures.

Considering the complexity of the compensation process — and understanding your need to receive help as quickly as possible and reduce stress — it is best to contact a military lawyer experienced in handling these matters.

Contacting a lawyer during the compensation process will help you:

  • avoid involvement in paperwork and bureaucracy;
  • avoid missing any deadlines for submitting documents;
  • feel calm and confident throughout the process.

In addition, the Attorney and Realtor Association of Ukraine “AROU” is legally authorized to submit attorney’s requests, which significantly simplifies the procedure, as we can contact the necessary authorities directly whenever required.
