Extending a foreigner’s stay is a legal mean of prolonging their presence in Ukraine beyond the visa period or the 90-day visa-free period. During the extension process, a special stamp is placed in a foreigner’s passport indicating the new date until which they are legally allowed to stay in Ukraine.
There are various grounds for extending a foreigner’s stay in Ukraine. These include applying for an immigration permit, applying for Ukrainian citizenship, having circumstances that prevent leaving the country, and other situations such as medical treatment, pregnancy, caring for a sick family member, handling inheritance matters, fulfilling the duties of a foreign media correspondent, among others.
By providing individual consultations, we offer professional advice on the grounds for extending the stay in each specific case and develop optimal strategies for resolving the situation. The team of specialists at the Lawyers and Realtors Association of Ukraine “AROU” helps make the process as efficient and safe as possible for clients.
The procedure for extending a foreigner’s stay in Ukraine involves several stages. First, we analyze the specific situation and determine the most suitable basis for extending the stay in the country. Next, our lawyers prepare the necessary documents, adhering to all requirements and rules to avoid rejection upon submission. We ensure translation, certification, and apostille of documents if needed.
If necessary, we can also provide registration services for foreigners. The application for an extension must be submitted personally by the foreigner and the host party 10 days before the end of the legal stay in Ukraine. The standard processing time for the application is 3 working days, but in some cases, this period can be extended up to 10 or even 14 days.
The required documents for submitting an application include: a completed electronic application form, a foreigner’s passport and its notarized translation, the host party’s passport (for legal entities – the company director’s passport), documents confirming financial stability, proof of property ownership for the place of residence, a photo of a foreign national, and a receipt for the state fee payment.
